Redmond Accounting Inc is looking ahead to position ourselves for the future of our profession with the coming of artificial intelligence, as knowledge is democratized and machines are designed to perceive their environment.
We have returned from the annual Scaling New Heights accounting technology conference. This year’s event theme was “Face the Yeti” and was held at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Over a thousand accounting professionals attended and faced their “Yeti” (challenges). The conference focused on 5 main types of practice challenges that face all accountants and bookkeepers:
Becoming and Remaining Distinctive
Building and Leading a Team
Finding and Retaining the Right Clients
Moving Beyond Compliance/Bookkeeping to a Stronger Role as Trusted Advisor
Staying Current with Technology
Instruction
Our firm founder, Laura Redmond, taught three sessions. She taught the two-part session “The Process Driven Firm”, where she discussed how Redmond Accounting has evolved over the years into a firm that is intentional and proactive in its dedication to providing world-class client service. And she taught the QuickBooks Online deep dive case study session on “Complex Conversions”. Click here to watch Laura’s interview with highlights of the courses she taught.
Networking
This annual conference is a time for us to network and reconnect with colleagues and solution providers. Each year we attend, we gain knowledge and insight into the industry. There is always a lot of energy as we hear from special guest speakers and industry leaders. This year topics included fraud prevention, defining client services, certifications, and we watched a company receive a “Tech Makeover”. To help small business advisors stay current on technology, many vendors showcased the newest apps and add-ons which can help streamline processes within QuickBooks Online.
Conference host Joe Woodard concluded, “Instead of fear (which leads to inaction), conference attendees faced the challenges with courage (which leads to action), and became equipped to face the specific challenges in their accounting practices.” We learned many new things while we were there and are looking forward to next year’s conference in Atlanta, Georgia to “Tame the Machines”.
What’s Next
We attend these tech conferences so that we can stay at the forefront of technology, which directly benefits our clients. Today we see broad acceptance of the cloud with integrated apps automating work and reducing labor and errors. There’s a stronger focus now on mobile solutions, as the workforce is increasingly on the go. Redmond Accounting Inc is looking ahead to position ourselves for the future of our profession with the coming of artificial intelligence, as knowledge is democratized and machines are designed to perceive their environment.
