Much of the country is working from home this week. Some are finding it challenging. We’ve been working virtually for many years. Here are some of our best tips.
Pro tips for newcomers to the Work From Home (WFH) movement:
Take a break. Don’t let work follow you home, even if it is literally in your home. Find a separate space and/or schedule for work and for home life and don’t let them overlap.
Make it professional. Turn off the TV and other distractions. You’re at work. Create an environment in which you can be productive.
Just log in. Use online tools like Google Docs, QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Expensify, Gusto. These allow you to work with your colleagues collaboratively without worrying about version control.
Stay connected. Avoid feeling isolated or out of the loop by keeping in communication with others. Use video and chat apps like Google Hangouts, Slack, and Zoom. Have virtual lunch with a friend!
Be organized. Use calendar and workflow apps to schedule your day so important things don’t slip through the cracks. Send event invitations with links to the web meeting.
Find the silver lining. Think about the benefits. No commute. Dress how you want. Work with your pets.

We’re paperless and rarely need to meet in person. Most of…

Facebook hosted a Bay Area small business boot camp called Facebook Fit to share the latest tools and technology for doing business. We worked the QuickBooks booth and met lots of amazing entrepreneurs.…
Automation is one of the pillars of our firm’s core focus. QuickBooks' Banking screen delivers on AI with its quest for zero data entry. When you connect QuickBooks to your bank and credit card accounts, your data is imported so you don't have to type it. Then you can use QuickBooks’ bank rules to automatically categorize and record the activity. It's like putting your bookkeeping on autopilot. …
